Inspection Day

On our ECO tour

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThank you to Mr Sam Harrison for coming along to our school today to share in our ECO schools work. He enjoyed chatting to the pupils and seeing all the recycled items we have around the school as part of his visit. He took home his crisp packet badge and the ECO torch!  The ECO team answered  questions well and it was super to drop into nursery to see all their plants growing and tadpoles swimming about. Pr 5/6/7 shared their John Muir DVD from Eden Court JRock.

Pr 5 sang a great ECO song to welcome Sam and Niamh was a smiling Recycle Robin ECO Superhero!

Well done everyone for a superb team effort!

Let’s Sort It

Let’s Sort It on Tuesday 11 June as we look forward to welcoming Mr Sam Harrison along for our third ECO Schools Green Flag inspection.

The inspection will involve time talking with the ECO team, a tour around the school and then popping into classes for some ECO news about what classes have been doing.

We have one or two surprises planned to welcome Mr Harrison.

We have all worked hard and would be delighted to receive Green Flag status again.

Pr 5 have been working on Data Handling as part of their maths this term. We carried out a Litter Survey since we were on Litter Duty too. We split the school campus into 5 areas. We divided our class into teams for each zone. We prepared a tally chart with the sorts of litter we expected to find in our school grounds.

We counted up the types of litter found and found the total for each area. We drew bar charts to show the data we collected.

In every area, the greatest amount collected was sweetie wrappers or little bits left from opening a packet corner or top. This made us think about the amount of sweets we are eating for snacks.

We came up with a few suggestions to improve this problem.

ideasShare results and highlight problem of sweetie wrappers.

Encourage everyone to bin their rubbish.

Encourage everyone to bring healthier options.

Try out Fruity Fridays again.

Schools Grounds – Buildings and Space

We discussed our school grounds and any particular needs we had. We agreed that having an outdoor learning space would be great. We did have our pergola but it was removed to make way for the extension. We researched on the internet and made some design boards with some of the things we would like our outdoor learning area to have. We could use a poly tunnel for our classroom. We answered some of the Environmental Review questions. We even did some weeding!
